Create a custom or special item

Creating a custom item is often cumbersome and requires good knowledge of ISO 13399 due to the ISO product and parameter classification, connection code definition, and specific requirements for 2D and 3D models.

In CoroPlus® Tool Library, you can either import a custom item as a GTC package or create it directly in the application.

This document aims to simplify the creation of custom items for users who wish to incorporate third-party tool data or special items into the CoroPlus® Tool Library.

Steps to create a custom item:

  • Find and export a standard product from the catalogue.
  • Import the exported product.
  • Edit connection code.
  • Edit necessary parameters.
  • Replace necessary pictures, 2D and 3D models.

This document explains the process of creating a custom adaptor. Creating a custom tool or insert is similar, but it requires different 3D models.

Find and export a standard item

  1. Navigate to the Catalog page in CoroPlus® Tool Library
  2. Select your desired tool type (for example: rotational symmetrical adaptor)
  3. Find a product similar to the custom product you want to create. You can use filters or search options to narrow down the results.
  4. Select a standard product and export the GTC package.

Import the exported product

  1. Navigate to the Custom items page in CoroPlus® Tool Library.
  2. Select Import GTC package and select the GTC package you downloaded in the previous section.
  3. Mark the item(s) you want to import.
  4. Use the pen icon to edit the name.

The item is already in our catalogue, so you must assign it a new name.

  1. Mark the Import radio icon.
  2. Modify the Name of the items. You may modify the description if needed.
  3. Press OK.
  4. The Import button will be activated once you press OK - press Import to import the item.

     5. Close the window when the import process is completed.

Edit parameters

To change the parameters, open the imported item:

  1. Select the parameter tab.
  2. Modify parameters based on manufacturer-specified values.
  3. Do not forget to save the changes.

Add or edit connection code

  1. Click the connection codes tab.
  2. Add new or edit existing connection code for machine side interface.
  3. Add new or edit existing connection code for the workpiece side interface.

Change the necessary Pictures, 2D, and 3D models

  1. Click on the Cube icon in the model viewer. The cube allows you to select the type of model you want to replace.
  2. You can delete the existing model by clicking the Trash button.
  3. The Plus (+) button allows you to import a new model.
  4. Press the Save button to save the changes.

Requirements for a 3D model

For CoroPlus® Tool Library to create an assembly and generate essential information for the GTC package, like 2D drawings, 3D models, and assembly pictures, it requires at least one accurate model (3D model detailed or 3D model basic). We suggest using the '3D model detailed' if it is available.

Adaptive items

Adaptive items should contain named coordinate systems (PCS, MCS, CSW) and solid items should have the name NOCUT.

The position and orientation of the different coordinate systems are shown below:

Insert items

The requirements for the Insert step file are listed below. It is important to set the name (CUTTING EDGE LINE) for the cutting profile because CoroPlus® Tool Library uses that profile to calculate CRP and the necessary dimensions.

The position and orientation of the different coordinate systems are shown below:

Indexable milling and drilling tools

Requirements on the 'Indexable mill' and 'drill tool' Step files are listed below.

Indexable turning, threading, parting, and grooving tools

The requirements for the Indexable turning, threading, parting, and grooving tool (STEP) file are listed below:

Solid round tools

The requirements for a solid round tool (STEP) are listed below:

Taps and Reamers tools

The structure of taps and reamers is similar to that of solid tools mentioned above. Below is a parametric representation of taps and reamers, including essential information such as coordinate systems and CRP.
